Description

I had no intention of painting Ravens or any other birds when I started this canvas. First I had blessed and dedicated the canvas then I had written a question on it, asking about how to heal the chaos of the time. You can still see some of the writing on the finished piece. I allow the brush to speak and move as it likes in the beginning, giving different points of view about the question. I continued to work on it but had stopped for the night and later walked to look at it again in its unfinished state. Suddenly I “SAW” a Raven in the white stroke. “Wow”, I said out loud to myself, That’s a Raven!” I had no idea what connection that might have to my original question. I had done some more painting over the original stroke but all was just free and loose so it was nothing I was trying to create. After that I went on to bring more details to the Raven and saw several others hiding in the backgrounds along with an old dead tree upon which they sat. I had actually thought of doing an Aspen wood growing from the old tree but that never happened once I saw the ravens. The finished painting is threaded with a blue line of prayer dots which I made as I prayed about the situations in our world and painted around to connect it all. There are butterflies and more as well, sparkled with much golden reflective paint to bring it light. Its really quite lovely, A beautiful symbol of HOPE, one form of ART Medicine.
